
Al Schmitt,

Al
Schmitt’s education at Columbia earned him two degrees, a B.A. and a B.N.S. After a stint in the Navy, he began a fund-raising career which
has spanned 46 successful years.
For 18 of his career years Mr. Schmitt has served as the principal
executive for a Board of Trustees. Since 1994 he has provided
consultation in planned giving to many Semple-Bixel clients. He takes
particular pride in his ability to identify and devise solutions for
the “unusual” problems which may arise in the development process.
In addition to a commitment to his professional field, Mr. Schmitt’s
personal concern for the community and his leadership ability are
demonstrated by his dedicated involvement in important civic
activities. He is past president and current board member of the New
Jersey Planning Officials, which draws its membership from the 11,000
citizens statewide who serve on municipal planning and zoning boards.
He is a past president of CHR-ILL, a 400 employee home health care
agency based in Montclair, and has invested 30 active years in the New
Jersey Football Officials Association.

million gymnasium building campaign at Columbia University.

million capital campaign at Montclair State University.

the Greater Newark Hospital Building Fund which raised $21 million
for five hospitals in Newark.

million capital and program campaign at Fairleigh Dickinson
University.

the Pascack Valley Hospital Foundation which conducted successful
campaigns of $2.5, $3.0, and $6.0 million.
